CPI Wastewater Treatment Equipment Helps Food Processing Companies Meet the Compliance Challenges of New Standards in 2026
April 9th, 2026

Corrugated Plate Interceptors (CPI), as a highly efficient industrial wastewater treatment device, have become an important solution for food processing companies to treat oily wastewater and high-concentration organic wastewater. CPI equipment utilizes corrugated plate assemblies to increase the separation surface area, effectively removing up to 90% of floating oil, grease, and suspended solids from wastewater. Many wastewater treatment systems are designed with CPI as the first pretreatment step to protect downstream biological treatment and membrane modules.

Food processing wastewater contains large amounts of grease, protein, and suspended solids generated during production cleaning, raw material handling, and CIP cleaning. CPI oil-water separators remove these contaminants in the primary treatment stage, reducing the load on subsequent biological treatment units and membrane bioreactors (MBRs). Market data shows that the global food and beverage industry water and wastewater treatment market is projected to grow from $49.07 billion in 2026 to $66.4 billion in 2030, reflecting the continued demand for wastewater treatment solutions. This growth is driven by stricter emission regulations, increasing demand for wastewater reuse, and end-to-end compliance requirements in food manufacturing.

CPI equipment operates without complex moving parts, relying on gravity separation to remove floating oil and settleable solids. The corrugated plate design provides a separation area far greater than traditional sedimentation tanks, while occupying only 30% to 50% of the floor space. When combined with dissolved air flotation (DAF) equipment, the removal efficiency for emulsified oil and fine particulate matter can be further improved. These characteristics make CPI pretreatment systems particularly suitable for food processing wastewater, slaughterhouse wastewater, and dairy processing wastewater with high oil content.

Modern wastewater treatment plants are increasingly adopting modular wastewater treatment systems that integrate CPI separation, biological treatment (such as MBBR or activated sludge processes), and advanced filtration technologies. Automated monitoring systems help operators maintain stable effluent quality while reducing chemical and energy consumption. As food processing companies continue to expand their capacity and face ongoing environmental compliance pressures, reliable CPI industrial wastewater treatment equipment will continue to play a vital role in helping companies meet wastewater discharge standards and achieve sustainable water resource management goals.
